Lines of storm clouds were moving through, and winds were building to 15-18 knots, with gusts over 30 knots. As other boats were heading for the dock, we were having a great time on the Puur 17.


The Puur 17 is efficient and maneuverable in very light air, as shown in the video below on a wintery day with less than 3 knots of breeze.


With its lightly-ballasted lifting keel, the Puur 17 will self-right from 110 degrees, giving her better safety than a typical dinghy.


The Puur 17 has extraordinary maneuverability in tight quarters and light air, thanks to its high-stall foils, self-tacking jib, and balanced sail plan. It makes docking a drama-free experience, as shown in the video below.


Sailing on Lake Granby in Colorado, winds can go from 5 knots to 20 knots quickly. The Puur 17 is at ease in a wide range of conditions without reefing or changing sails.


Here’s the Puur 17 single-handed in 3-6 knots of breeze. You’ll notice great lift to windward from the boat’s NACA 20 keel and rudder.
